Harleys on Highways

This is a guest post. Nachiketh Balachandran, whom you all know as K,  wrote it . Welcome, K; I hope this will inspire you to start a blog of your own!

I sit in a class of ninety.

But I am alone
All alone like a man in the middle of the ocean.
I sit here, thinking;
Thinking about my past, my future
And how this miserable present will pass me.

I hope. I always do.
For a better life;
A life of the Angels
The Angels who wear black
Who hear only one sound
The sound of their Harleys.
I will ride with the Angels one day
To the ends of the world I will ride -

To peace, to pleasure, to freedom.

  1. Hells Angels!May you experience the exaltation of the gushing wind as you cross the terrains, K.

"On motorcycles, up the road, they come:
Small, black, as flies hanging in heat, the Boy,
Until the distance throws them forth, their hum
Bulges to thunder held by calf and thigh.
    In goggles, donned impersonality,
In gleaming jackets trophied with the dust..."

  2. @Arun: I have a book written by Hunter S Thompson, who rode with Hells Angels for two years in the'60s. The intimate view of their life is a far cry from what the outsider perceives. Yet it is fascinating, even compellingly desirable to ride away on a tangent from the morbid mainstream. The key thing is the yearning for freedom, to achieve which, there are several paths. One has to find one's own...

  4. I have this dilemma to write something considering what Nachiketh has penned here.Being alone in a crowd is what being creative he feels, kind of optimism he bears with an identity of his own,the ultimate freedom and peace coming with that he dreams,It's a melange of true feelings from 'Inside' I concieve.

    'The angels who wear black..
Who hear only one sound, here lies the beauty of whole thing.

And to the individual that Nachiketh is,we have this complete obsession towards past which may prevent us from converting 'present' to the best. It's been one of my interesting thoughts for sometime now.May be the creative in us do the trick for us.But dissecting this one here tend to spoil the colours of the poem.

(btw, what a responsible name parents have found for you..My God)

    Keep writing,

  6. Black is indeed a bright colour if you see it without a preconceived notion.

I read K's wall post in the Facebook and the commercial of the Harleys that threw him overboard in love with the machine.

When one sit quiet and feel his wall post and the fascination that must have triggered those words, I guess is the audacity of the young mind waiting to blow out and fly free. A Jonathan Livingstone!
And in front of that youthful spirit the verse you have penned is only a gazer.

By the way the winter days are over I guess.( the ones you sighed about in the previous post)

  7. There's nothing quite like the feel of being alone on a motorized Master such as the powerful Harley. You become alone no matter the crowd or the situation because it is ONLY YOU and your Powerful Machine as they say here in America.. Yes, I have been on the back on one with my brother..But, it was me, the wind and being............just being....You do have a way with words..Always have.........

  8. Oh Im late!!

Its an insatiable pleasure to be out there alone; you, yourself and your mate. K's mate being a motorcycle and the journey - to discover oneself - the inner self.

He is after you it seems Balan. Is it?

Please encourage K to continue writing :) My wishes to him.
